singer sewing

Hi i am a newbi  I purchased a singer esteem i think i just about have it mastered until i got to the button holes and decorative stiches. The button hole is to exchange the presser foot with the holder and place the button in, well thats as far as i can get. it stays in one spot. I took 1 sewing class and now i am hooked, i love it. I am home alot due to illness so i now have something to keep me busy. At this point i have made 3 pairs of pajamas for my grandson, and they look and fit great until you look and see there are no buttons/button holes. So if there is a video or someone can tell me what i am doing wrong please help.
