Learn how to sew a dress by using the bodice and straight skirt block patterns we drafted in previous video lessons or store bought (ready made) patterns. Part A: Styling the patterns for the dress we are going to sew, including the lengthwise grain and fold lines. Drafting the facing patterns, adding seam allowances, calculating the fabric for the knife pleated skirt, spaghetti straps and piping. Part B: Cutting the fabric for the dress, calculating the pleat measurements for the skirt, sewing the seams, cutting biased strips for the piping and spaghettis straps, sewing the piping and spaghetti straps and doing the first fitting. Part C: Sewing the top section seams, inserting the invisible zipper, basting the piping to the top and lower hipline, joining the spaghetti straps, basting the facing and the pleated skirt to the dress and doing the second fitting. Part D: Sewing the piping, facing and skirt to the dress by machine, hemming the skirt and pressing the finished dress. |
