direction to fold darts

Hi Nehzat,

In the drafting videos it looks like the front darts are folded so that the intake lies toward the center, and the back darts are folded so that the intake lies toward the sides.  I was wondering why they are folded differently.  Is it because, by doing so, less bulk is created around the body?

Another question I had is, to add ease to a skirt, would you just add it to the sides, when drafting the pattern, and not to the center back?

Dear Carol,

When we sew a skirt the shell darts always lay towards the center front and the center back. But for the lining the darts lay in the opposite direction. This way we reduce the bulk.

To add ease to the skirt you only add ease to the sides not the center back.
