Fitting a human jersey to fit a dog

Hi and I'm new  here, I just ordered a sewing machine today, in fact.  I wanted to ask if someone has an idea for my first project, which is to transform a human jersey shirt to fit a dog.  I have a German Shephard and honestly, the shirt I ordered for her fits well (a child medium) but through the upper legs, there is literaly no give. I'm not sure if "darts" or how to open that area for mobility. Thank you all so much!

Greetings

When remodeling a garment, it will be much better to select a larger fitting garment to be able to take in the areas that are needed. If the garment is tight, there won't be enough seam allowance to let it out.
