Hi Nehzat, I am sewing a fitted, pullover top (t shirt), In a moderate stretch cotton knit. How much ease should there be in the sleeve for this knit top and knits in general at the sleeves.
I measured the entire armhole on the seamline, omitting the seam allowances and got 18 1/4 inches. I did the same to the sleeve and got 20 1/2 inches, so I guess the ease amount is 1 1/4 inch.
Is this okay for a knit top or should I reduce it a bit?
I know I should be using metric, it's more accurate, I was raised on standard and I'm trying to remember to use metric in sewing.
Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate you.
Veronica
Hi Veronica,
Thanks for the kind words.
Generally you need to have about 2.5 cm or 1 inch of ease at the sleeves for knitted fabric.
Happy sewing,
Nehzat
