how to sew skirts and pants with no overlap on waistband, the zipper zips up to the top

Hi

 

I am following the draft skirt pattern making, but I would like to be able to make the skirt either without a waistband altogether where the zip pulls up to the top of the skirt or with a waistband but with no overlap again the zip pulls up to the top.  Can you show me how?
