Lining for a bag

I have finished a needlepoint piece and want to incorporate it into a lined zippered bag.  Could you explain how and when to add the lining?  I just finished watching your makeup bag and plan to use that as a guide without squaring the top.

Dear Glenna, 

You will need to sew the lining a bit smaller than the shell. This way it will not bunch up inside your bag.
