Help
I have a knit pleated skirt. It has a elastic waist and then a 4" band around the skirt and then the pleats go down to the bottom of the skirt.
It needs hemmed up 2". Where would I shorten the skirt at? I am thinking not at the bottom because of the pleats?
Thank you
Carol
Dear Carol,
You can shorten the skirt from the top of the pleated section or from the bottom.
If the bottom is done in a way that you are able to replicate it, then it is easier to shorten from the hem. Otherwise trim away the excess from the top of the pleated section.
To keep the pleated fabric in place baste or pin the pleats just bellow where you would cut the fabric, before opening the seam. Mark the center front and center back on the band and the pleated section at the seam lines to help you sew the two pieces back together easily.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions.
Happy sewing,
Nehzat
