Hi Nehzat,
I have a question about shortening a zipper. In the video on sewing the skirt, I believe it said we would put the zipper in place on the bottom, and leave the top extending past the top of the skirt until we sew on the waistband. When you sew on the waistband do you just sew across the zipper, but wouldn't that leave part of the zipper coins in the waistband and cause bulk? I'm sorry, it's probably very simple, but I just can't picture what you mean. The directions I've seen in books and zipper packages say to shorten it from the bottom. So I'm curious, is it better to shorten them from the top, if so, can you explain to me how I should do it?
Thank you, so much, I'm learning a lot from you :)
Carol
Dear Carol,
If your skirt has a waistband you can shorten the zipper from the top, otherwise from the bottom. The amount of zipper coils that go into the waistband will not be affecting the look of the waistband, since they are positioned under the seam allowances.
You can also trim the excess from the zipper just below the edge of the seam allowances, to layer them as well.
Happy sewing,
Nehzat
