Hi luv2sew,
The best way to replicate the style of your pouch without taking it apart is to use clear plastic sheets which you can purchase at some fabric stores or even Walmart. The same type which is used to make protective covers for books.
Fill the pouch with books or notebooks, to bring it to its maximum size and make it a solid mass.
Role some pieces of scotch tape and making double sided tape, stick it on the flat sides of the pouch in different places, then place the plastic sheet on the pouch. The tape should hold the plastic steady.
Now you can shape the plastic sheet around the pouch by folding, pining the corners and shaping the plastic like the pouch. Then trim any excess plastic. You can use this same technique for any sections that need a separate pattern.
Since the plastic is transparent, it will let you see under it and let you follow the shape of the pouch.
Next you need to draw lines with a marker wherever you have seam lines, and then cut the sheets following the marker lines.
Place the plastic pieces on sheets of paper and trace them. Use a ruler to straighten the lines if needed. Make sure that the sides which go together are the same length then add the seam allowances for them.
Now you should have a pattern to work with.
Hope this helps
Nehzat.
