I really love your bag, it looks really cute. You can definitely make a bigger one for your husband and the second time around it should be easier as well. Thanks so much for sharing.
I am having so much fun going through the videos! Tonight I watched the knitting. I learned to knit @ 50 years ago in Sweden and it was great to see that you do it virtually the same way. I would love to be able to review adding and subtracting stitches within the row and at the edges.
I am also just finishing Vogue 1179 (an easy knit dress). I basted just about everything after watching how much you baste and it was worth it!
Congratulations for your baby twins. Its good to see that even tough you have two little ones, you continue pursuing your passion.
For any body shape that deviates from the standard body shape we need to use the Full Figure Skirt Block Pattern lesson.
In your case you should also use the Full Figure Lesson, this way the hemline of your skirt will be parallel to the ground all the way around. Also the front part of your skirt won't be pulled up and the back won't be pulled forward when you wear the skirt.
Thank you so very much Nehzat. It is so nice to be able to ask a question like this and get such an encouraging reply that there will soon be a video out. I'll be anxious to see it. This is so wonderful, it's like having my own personal teacher, I can ask a question about something I need help with and can get to see the instruction. Thank you so very much!
If you look at these two chapter again : 4. Why do we Need Darts? (FREE) , 5. Calculating the Intake of the Darts in the Straight and Tapered Skirt Block Pattern video lesson. You will see that we explain that that there are two darts in the front and three in the back, one of them being at the center back. Then there are the two side seams, each containing the intake amount for two darts. So 2 intakes for the front plus 3 intakes for the back and 2 intakes for each side seams. This adds up to 9 intakes.
Imagine that you have a tube like skirt that has to fit around the widest part of your body. This can be your lower hip or upper hip. Now to fit it around your waistline, you need to take in the excess fabric using darts and the side seams. To spread the difference nicely between the darts and side seams, I have found that dividing the difference between the lower/upper hip circumference and the waist circumference by 9 works best.
The height of the person or any other body part measurement will not affect this calculation.
Welcome to eSewingWorkshop. A double stem stitch is used when you want to raise your stem stitch from the fabric, to give it more prominence.
To sew a double stem stitch you sew one row of stem stitches then go over and sew once more using the exact same holes that you created with the first row on the fabric.
Welcome to eSewingWorkshop.com. You can lean starting with the essentials, like the sewing machine and hand sewing lessons. Then you can continue with seams and zippers and button sewing.
After that you can work on cushion cover and the makeup bag lessons.
Don't worry your English will improve as you watch or re-watch the lessons as well.
Thanks for your kind words, they are greatly appreciated.
To make a tee-shirt (t-Shirt) without ribbing material for a round neckline, you can cut a strip of fabric cross wise, twice as wide as the desires width plus two seam allowances to make a binding.
The length of the binding should be a bit less than the circumference of the neckline by about 2 to 3 cm, but you need to add the seam allowances at the ends. Then sew the ends together from the wrong side and press the seam open.
Next fold the binding in half along the length, match the edges and press. Now you have a folded ring.
You can place the seam at the center back of the tee-shirt (t-shirt).
If the neckline is v shaped, the seam should be placed at the center front. However you need to place the ends of the binding together differently, by overlapping them and if necessary trimming the corners. You can look at a v shaped neckline to get an idea of how to overlap the ends, or how to join the ends at the center front.
I need to know what style of bodice you are sewing. Is it a dress, a jacket or a vest etc..?
If you could possibly take a picture of it from the right side, front and back and then turn it inside out and take a picture from the front and back again. You can email me the pictures, and I will let you know what you need to do to fix it. The email address is info@esewingworkshop.com
Some light weight knitted iron on interfacings do not have straight lines, they look more like lace. This type of interfacing is very good for very light fabrics, and the glue does not seep trough the fabric and become visible from the right side. They also give body to the fabric without making it stiff.
You can also use light weight fabrics like organza or fine cottons to reinforce the yoke. Sometimes I also use synthetic chiffons to achieve a soft look. If possible you can use the same fabric as the top to line the yoke, if doubling the fabric does not affect the result you want.
The technique that I use to square the fabric can be used on most types of fabric. Sometimes it may be hard to pull a thread on a fabric which has weak threads or one which has paint applied to it for the pattern.
You may also have a hard time pulling threads from fabric which has threads with different thicknesses.
In cases where you are not able to pull a thread to square the fabric you may be able to clip a notch and tear the fabric to get a straight line. Sometimes on ticker fabrics you may be able to follow one of the threads and cut along it as well.
It is best to use the same types of fabric that are used in the lesson, then move on to other fabrics latter. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Remember that practice makes perfect. However please let me know if you are having problems when rolling hems by hand or machine? Also if there are any specific aspects of rolling hems which is giving you a problem.
Make sure to use a fine and sharp needle, weather sewing by hand or machine.
It is good to watch the lessons multiple times.
When watching the videos pay close attention to how I hold the fabric and where the stitches are sewn on the rolled hem.
It's good to hear that you liked the rolled hem lesson.
You can use silk or cotton thread to work on silk or cotton fabric. However you should use good quality thread which is smooth not stiff or fuzzy. Your thread and needle should be fine when rolling hems by hand.
Yes the Formulas stay the same, but working in cm does not have fractions so doing the calculating is much easier when using cm. If you buy a measuring tape that has cm on one side and inches on the other, you can easily convert inches into cm. it will also help you become familiar and start to use cm as well. Our next video lesson will be on this subject.
To find out why we divide by 9 to get the dart intakes you can watch the video: Why Do We need Darts. All these divisions are based on the average proportions of the human body, and will give you the best results.
You can shorten the skirt from the top of the pleated section or from the bottom.
If the bottom is done in a way that you are able to replicate it, then it is easier to shorten from the hem. Otherwise trim away the excess from the top of the pleated section.
To keep the pleated fabric in place baste or pin the pleats just bellow where you would cut the fabric, before opening the seam. Mark the center front and center back on the band and the pleated section at the seam lines to help you sew the two pieces back together easily.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions.
Hi Badria,
Thank you so much for your compliments. If possible please up load a picture of the cushions, I would love to see them.
We will be adding your suggested topic to our list for future video lessons.
